The number of clubs who have secured their place in the round of 16 and knockout stage of this season's UEFA Champions League campaign has reached 15 following the completion of the penultimate round of matches in the league phase.

The new format involving 36 teams is nearing its completion with just one matchday left to play.

Only Liverpool and Barcelona have secured automatic qualification to the round of 16, with the remaining six teams set to go down to the wire.

The remaining 16 teams that will occupy 9th to 24th position will be involved in a play-off to secure their place in the last 16, while teams in the 25th to 36th positions will be eliminated.

Unlike the previous format, no club will drop to the Europa League this time.

Teams that have at least secured their place in the knockout playoff round are: Atlético Madrid, Atalanta, Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, Internazionale, Aston Villa, Brest, AS Monaco, Lille, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Juventus.
