Alexis Mac Allister lamented at Liverpool’s lack of control in their 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, January 5.
The Manchester United team worked themselves into a 2-1 lead midway through the second half of the Premier League contest with Cody Gakpo’s equaliser and a Mohamed Salah penalty after Lisandro Martinez had opened the scoring.
But United would leave Anfield with a point when Amad Diallo swept home 10 minutes before the end of the 90.
The draw means Liverpool missed the chance to hit eight points clear of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand.
Reacting to the game, Mac Allister stated: “I think the team is really disappointed.
“It’s not what we wanted but at the end it’s a fair result. I think we couldn’t control the game as we wanted. So, we have to take the point and move on.
“I think we couldn’t get to the positions that we wanted. We looked like [we were] in a rush. We are not happy with the performance at all but at the end it’s a point and we are still top of the league, so that’s important.
"Not really, just to remind [us of] the positions that we had to occupy, the way we wanted to press. But I think in the second half it was like a crazy game, we conceded too many chances, we had our opportunities as well to score goals. But as I said, I think it’s a fair result.
"I think the mentality is there and that’s really important as a team to come back like we did. But at the end when you are winning 2-1 [after] 75 minutes, you have to defend the result and we couldn’t do it.”
