Ademola Lookman is the new African Footballer of the Year

Nigeria's Ademola Lookman has been crowned the new King of African football after being named the 2024 African Footballer of the Year at the CAF Awards ceremony held in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday night.

The 27-year-old won the prestigious award ahead of Morocco's Achraf Hakimi, Côte d'Ivoire's Simon Adingra, Guinea's Serhou Guirassy, and South Africa's Ronwen Williams.

Lookman succeeded his Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhen, who won the award last year.

The Atalanta forward has become the sixth Nigerian male footballer to win the prestigious award.

Lookman had an incredible season with Atalanta last year, including scoring a historic hat-trick in the Europa League final to guide the club to its first European title.

The former Leicester City loanee also helped Nigeria reach the final of the 2023 African Cup of Nations earlier this year, scoring three goals in the knockout stages.
