Atalanta assistant manager Tullio Gritti believes their fans have every right to dream about their chances of winning the Scudetto this season after recording eight consecutive wins in the league.
La Dea made it eight wins in eight games after recording an impressive 2-0 victory away at AS Roma on Monday, December 2.
The victory means Gian Piero Gasperini's side is just a point behind leaders Napoli on the league table.
Atalanta are also edging closer to the club record of nine consecutive wins in Serie A, which was set between February and July 2020.
The club's remarkable winning streak in Serie A excited the travelling fans, who began to sing "We will win tricolor" in the stands.
Reacting to the fans' celebration, Gritti, who was in the dugout for the suspended Gian Piero Gasperini, said the fans have every right to dream.
“The fans are right to sing it, because it is their job to dream of the highest targets and this team has made them believe. We are currently in an incredible position, deservedly. As the coach always says, we’ll see where we are later on in the season,” Gritti told Sky Sport Italia.
“Right now, our position makes us smile and we deserve to be there. It is all thanks to these lads, who are marvelous in every arena.
“This was the victory to give us awareness we have reached an important level. We suffered, because Roma have players worth far more than 13 points. They are going through a rough period, but remain a good team.
“We are very strong at the moment because we manage to hold out under pressure, but can then do damage when we go on the attack. The awareness of our strength goes all the way through the squad, those who start and come off the bench, giving us a very high level.”
