Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has stated his preferred position ahead of Nigeria's final African Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on Tuesday, November 19.
The Sevilla forward was deployed as a striker alongside Victor Osimhen in the Super Eagles' last qualifier game against Benin Republic last Thursday.
The three-time African champions were held to a 1-1 draw against Gernot Rohr's side at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
Speaking ahead of the dead rubber clash, the former Manchester City striker disclosed that he would love to be deployed in the number 10 role against Rwanda.
“Managers might think differently; wherever they put me, I play. I’m serving the country, I’m playing. Anywhere I find myself, I just go there and do my job, Iheanacho said in a chat with Victor Modo.
“For me personally, in the national team, I would like to be a number 10, obviously a proper number 10, so it depends on the formation any manager is playing. You have to adapt to it as a football player.
“I’m a proper number 10 in the national team. That’s my best position in the national team. In the club, it’s different. I’m a number 9, but sometimes I play number 10.”
With Ademola Lookman out of the team and Victor Osimhen doubtful, Iheanacho is likely to start against Rwanda.
