The Libya Football Federation (LFF) has stated it will not entertain any excuses from Nigeria to forfeit the return fixture of the African Cup of Nations qualifier slated for later today (Tuesday, October 15).

The Super Eagles contingent returned home to Nigeria after being stranded at Al Abraq Airport for over 16 hours after touching down in Libya for the game. This was due to an unexpected flight diversion from the original landing destination in Benghazi.

Despite the Super Eagles' decision to boycott the game, the Libyan FA has shared pictures of their players training at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium ahead of the game.

In a statement on their official X handle, the LFF wrote:

“Some may be used to putting up obstacles before the match, but here in the heart of Benghazi, specifically on the grounds of the Martyrs of Benina Stadium, there is no room for excuses after the starting whistle.

The LFF had initially condemned the NFF's decision to withdraw from playing the qualifiers and threatened to take legal action against Nigeria to protect the interests of their national team.

“The Libyan Football Federation condemns the measures taken by the Nigerian Football Federation by refusing to play the Libya-Nigeria match in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, stressing that it will take all legal measures to preserve the interests of the Libyan national football team.”
