Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen has described Victor Osimhen's absence from the Super Eagles team as a huge miss ahead of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya.

Osimhen, 25, will miss the upcoming doubleheader against the Mediterranean Knights after sustaining an injury in Galatasaray's clash against Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig.

Despite scoring a brace in the opening 28 minutes, the reigning African Footballer of the Year was substituted in the first half after suffering a hamstring injury.

Speaking ahead of Nigeria's upcoming game against Libya, Eguavoen described Osimhen's injury as a huge miss for the team.

However, the 59-year-old believes that the likes of Victor Boniface and Taiwo Awoniyi can fill in the shoes of the former Lille striker.

“Football is all about collective effort, it’s a team sport, not an individual sport,” Eguavoen told NFF TV.

“It’s a huge miss. We all know how important and impactful Osimhen can be, but we have other players who can do the job.

“He’s not here physically, but he’s with us spiritually.”

Nigeria will take on Libya at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, October 11 before travelling away for the return encounter on Tuesday, October 15.
