Past and present players of the Super Eagles have celebrated former captain Vincent Enyeama as he marks his birthday.
The former Super Eagles captain, in a post on his Instagram page, expressed gratitude to God for preserving his life as he turns 42.
"Lord, I am forever grateful for your love and mercies. Thank you for preserving my life all these days, weeks, months. Thank you for a new age," he captioned a photo he shared.
Despite his height, Enyeama is regarded by many as Nigeria's best goalkeeper and the greatest in Africa during his era.
During a career that spanned almost 20 years, Enyeama played for Ibom Stars, Enyimba, Iwuanyanwu Nationale, Bnei Yehuda, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Lille, and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
He was also a member of the Nigeria national team from 2002 until October 2015, serving as its captain from 2013 until he retired from international football in 2015. With 101 caps, he was Nigeria's most capped player until November 2021 when he was surpassed by Ahmed Musa.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) chose an epic performance to celebrate Enyeama.
In a post on social media, the football authority shared his extraordinary performance in the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final match against Tunisia.
Enyeama, the former Super Eagles goalkeeper, wrote his name in AFCON history with an unprecedented feat of saving four penalties in a single match.
Recognizing this remarkable achievement, CAF wrote: "Saving a penalty mid-game is impressive? How about saving another 3 in the shootout that follows? Throwback to birthday boy Vincent Enyeama pulling the strings for @NGSuperEagles back in 2006."
This celebration not only honors Enyeama's birthday but also highlights one of the most memorable goalkeeping performances in African football history.
