Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, faces a daunting prospect as they come up against the United States in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Coach Rema Wakama's side have been exceptional among Team Nigeria's contenders at the ongoing games.

D'Tigress began their campaign with a historic 75-54 victory against Australia, ranked third in the world. The victory was Nigeria's first win at the Olympic Games in 20 years.

Nigeria lost their second game 75-54 to host France, before bouncing back with 79-70 victory over Canada in their last game.

Having secured a quarterfinal berth, D'Tigress faces an uphill task as they come up against Team USA, who are gunning for their 8th Olympic Gold medal in women's basketball.

The United States are also on a 58-game winning streak ahead of the clash against D'Tigress.

Ahead of the highly anticipated game, let's reflect on what transpired in the last meeting between the two teams.

The United States humbled the D'Tigress by 100-46 in the Olympics qualification tournament in Belgium earlier this year.

After producing a sensational comeback to beat Senegal 72-65 in their first game of the qualifiers, D'Tigress were pummeled by the United States at the Sportpaleis, Antwerp in their second encounter.

A decent start in the first quarter which the US led by 19-13, was marred by rampant display by the Team USA as the second quarter ended 51-20.

The lead was further extended in the third quarter to 75-35 before the United States closed the game with a 54-point victory at the end of the fourth quarter.

Despite being overwhelming underdogs, D'Tigress will be hoping to cause one of the greatest Olympic upsets later today, August 8.
