Paris 2024: Favour Ofili lament after being denied 100m spot due to administrative failure

Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili has announced that she will not be competing in 100m race at the ongoing Paris Olympics.

Despite securing qualification, the 21-year-old in a tweeted statement disclosed that the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) failed to register her for the race.

The athlete has demanded accountability from those responsible for the administrative error.

"It is with great regret that I have just been told I will not be competing in the 100 meters at this Olympic Games. I qualified, but those with the AFN and NOC failed to enter me. I have worked for 4 years to earn this opportunity", she wrote on X.

Ofili added that it is not the first time she has been denied opportunity to compete at the Olympic Games due to administrative failure.

“Please remember, in the last Olympic Games, I was not able to compete because AFN, NADC and NOC failed to release funds for athletes to be tested, which made 14 Nigerian athletes that qualified to not compete. Now this……”
