Nigeria Premier Football League side Enyimba FC has named Yemi Olanrewaju as the new head coach, succeeding Finidi George, who recently took up the position as head coach of the Super Eagles.
Finidi George departed his role as coach of the People's Elephant following his appointment by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as the new coach of the Super Eagles on April 29.
The former Real Betis winger succeeded Portuguese coach José Peseiro after serving as his assistant coach for 20 months.
In a seamless transition, Olanrewaju, who previously served as Finidi George's assistant at the Aba-based side, will now fill the role.
Enyimba FC released a statement introducing the new head coach, stating:
“Following Coach George’s departure, Enyimba FC is delighted to announce the promotion of Assistant Coach Olanrewaju Yemi Daniel to the position of Head Coach until the end of the season. Coach Daniel has been an indispensable part of the coaching staff, showcasing his commitment, expertise, and leadership qualities throughout his tenure.”
Olanrewaju once worked as an assistant coach with the defunct MFM FC and Nigeria’s U-17 side, Golden Eaglets, Dailypost reports.
