Tottenham Hotspurs skipper Son Heung-min has opened up on his missed glorious opportunity against Manchester City in the Premier League on Tuesday, May 14.
Manchester City secured a 2-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur, claiming the top spot in the Premier League table ahead of Arsenal as the season heads into its final round of matches.
At 1-0, Son had a glorious opportunity to equalize for Spurs but was denied by City goalkeeper Stefano Ortega. Shortly after, Erling Haaland extended City's lead from the penalty spot.
Speaking on his missed chance, the South Korean international praised Ortega for his excellent save.
"I’m also human. The keeper made a really good decision and made himself really big. But I take the responsibility not to score that big chance for the team because the team was working really hard and trying to get a good result," Son told the Evening Standard.
Interestingly, Arsenal fans had hoped for a Tottenham victory to aid their own title race aspirations against City.
The defeat also dealt a blow to Spurs' hopes of securing Champions League qualification."
Manuel Akanji nearly sent Pep Guardiola to the other side. Stefan Ortega had to deny Son Heung-min 1v1. The save & miss that hurt Arsenal fans more than Tottenham fans. 'Best team' in the world putting their faith on rival bottler Spurs. I love this game! pic.twitter.com/Wa8nPxkBvy
