Having solved the initial mystery on the appointment of the Super Eagles head coach, all attention has now shifted to the right candidates for the backroom staff role.
The former international who was officially appointed on April 29 after serving as interim coach for the Super Eagles was announced as the new head coach without a backroom staff.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) claimed the rationale was to give him the liberty to choose his preferred candidates to work with, thus avoiding any form of rancour.
Recent reports indicate that the former Ajax forward has shortlisted some individuals he would like to work with in his new role.
According to OwnGoalNigeria, Finidi George's list of backroom staff includes three foreigners who will serve as a match analyst, first assistant coach, and physical trainer.
Among his technical team, as per the report, also includes former Super Eagles goalkeeper Abiodun Baruwa as goalkeeper's trainer and former Nigeria striker Daniel Amokachi as the second assistant.
As per a report by OwnGoalNigeria, a member of the NFF technical committee, who spoke on conditions of anonymity, voiced discontent with Finidi's selection of assistants.
The committee member stressed that the NFF wants the 53-year-old to prioritize indigenous coaches over foreign managers in building the core of his team.
The report concludes that the NFF expects the former Ajax winger to reciprocate the trust placed in him by appointing other indigenous managers to work closely with him as members of his backroom staff.
