Peseiro walk tightrope as NFF demand pay cut on $70,000 monthly salary

Jose Peseiro's future as head coach of the Super Eagles remains uncertain as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is demanding a significant pay cut.

The Portuguese gaffer's contract expires at the end of this month, and it appears he may have to make some financial sacrifices if he intends to remain in charge of the Super Eagles.

The former Sporting Lisbon manager was hired by former NFF chief Amaju Pinnick on a one-year deal in May 2022 following the resignation of Augustine Eguavoen as interim coach of the Super Eagles.

The NFF believes his performance has been below par and the federation is struggling to cough out his enormous wages.

The 63-year-old has qualified Nigeria for the 2023 Nations Cup in Ivory Coast following Nigeria's 3-2 win over Sierra Leone in the AFCON qualifiers last weekend.

However, it remains to be seen whether the former Real Madrid assistant manager will be in charge for the team's last game against Sao Tome and Principe in September.
