Inter Milan will take a two-goal advantage into the return fixture of the UEFA Champions League semi-final clash against city rivals AC Milan next week.
Two goals from Eden Dzeko and Henrik Mkhitaryan gave Simone Inzaghi's side a healthy 2-0 lead heading into the second leg.
Former Manchester City striker Dzeko opened the scoring for the away side early in the 8th minute before Mkhitaryan added the second for three minutes later.
It was an underwhelming performance from the Rossoneri who were missing their Starman Rafael Leao to injury.
The victory was Inter's first-ever win over Milan in European competition.
The Nerazzurri have now won three straight games against AC Milan with a clean sheet for the first time since 1979-80.
