There was mayhem after the male referee failed to award a penalty to the Congolese women's club, DC Motema Pembe during a league match.

The female players in a video that has gone viral charged the match official after he denied their appeal for a penalty.

According to several reports, a DC Motema Pembe player was tackled in the box by an opposition player.

The referee made an attempt to escape from the ladies but was unfortunate as members of the team and the bench charged on.

In the video, the referee was kicked and punched by the female players and one man from Motema Pembe’s technical team.

The referee managed to escape into the tunnel.

The DR Congo Football Association has suspended some players of DC Motema Pembe and has opened investigations into the incident.
