While the continent and other well-wishers have congratulated the national football team of Morocco for their exploits in the ongoing world cup, Nigerians have social media have tied their defeat to France to the support of President Muhammadu Buhari.
This comes after it emerged that President Buhari had earlier congratulated and declared his support for the Moroccan national team.
In a photo shared by U.S. President Joe Biden on the microblogging platform, Twitter Buhari was seated alongside Prime Minister Akhannouch of Morocco and other African leaders.
Joe Biden captioned the photo: "It was a great honor to watch today’s World Cup match alongside Prime Minister Akhannouch of Morocco.
No matter who you’re rooting for, it was remarkable to watch how much this team has been able to achieve."
The post has generated some reactions on social media.
Reno Omokri in a post on his Instagram page wrote: Buhari bad negative human spirit has done it again for Morocco so eerily in the game! Why did he congratulate them?"
He wrote in another post after Morocco lost to France:"Buhari has done it again for Morocco!"
Reno Omokri, who is a strong ally to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has managed to link defeats suffered by the Super Eagles in international football tournaments to the President.
Recall that Nigeria was kicked out of the quarter-finals of the AFCON by Tunisia despite a 100 percent record in the group stage.
President Buhari had called the team prior to the Tunisia clash to encourage them to bring home the trophy.
