Three-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winners Nigeria on Tuesday settled for another stalemate with fellow West Africans Sierra Leone in an AFCON2022 qualification game in Freetown.

The Leone Stars of Sierra Leone pulled a shock 4-4 result against Nigeria in Benin City four days ago but neither side could find the back of the net as they battled out a 0-0 draw at the National Stadium in Freetown.

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr made two changes to the side that capitulated in epic proportions last Friday, replacing injured Victor Osimhen with Kelechi Iheanacho while also handing Ola Aina a rare start in place of Zaidu Sanusi.

Strikers Ahmed Musa and Iheanacho were denied earlier on by Sierra Leone goalkeeper Mohammed Camara while the Leicester forward also saw a curling effort dipping under the cross bar tipped over in the second half.

By and large, both teams huffed and puffed on the hard and scruffy turf at the Siaka Stevens Stadium with status quo in Group L remaining after Lesotho and Benin drew 0-0 in the day’s earlier game.
 
Nigeria still top the group with eight points from four matches, one more than second placed Benin with two matches left (both to be played in March 2021). Both Nigeria and Benin will face in Cotonou in the next game in Group L.
