Former Nigerian international Ifeanyi Udeze has slammed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following its appointment of Eric Chelle as the Super Eagles head coach.
According to the former defender-turned-broadcaster, NFF's technical director Augustine Eguavoen, who was the interim head coach of the Super Eagles, boasts a better CV than the Malian.
Speaking on Brila FM’s No Holds Barred, Udeze noted that Chelle only accepted the offer to coach the Eagles to enhance his CV and not to qualify Nigeria for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“A coach Mali sacked for a poor run in the World Cup qualifiers, does he deserve this job?” Udeze said.
“The most annoying thing is that Augustine Eguavoen, who was our interim coach, has a better CV than this Eric Chelle. On what grounds was Chelle employed?
“He took the job to enhance his CV. He doesn’t care whether we qualify for the World Cup or not. That’s the only reason he accepted the job.”
The NFF has come under severe scrutiny over its choice of coach for the three-time African champions.
Many fans believe appointing a locally based coach would have been a better option for the team.
