Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, is set to team up with the players and staff of Jose Peserio’s team in preparation for the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.
Enyeama, 41, featured in over a century of games for the Nigerian National team, but shockingly left the team in 2015, announcing his retirement when he was 33 years old.
He was previously quoted, as saying he left the team because he felt he was treated poorly and without respect. He also added that since his exit, he put up a block between himself and the Super Eagles, and hasn’t been watching their games.
In recent years, Nigerian football fans have been complaining about the goalkeeping section of the Super Eagles. Francis Uzoho has not been reliable, and the coach, Jose Peseiro, has not given any other goalkeepers the chance to prove themselves since he’s been in charge.
The AFCON tournament kicks off in twelve days, and the Super Eagles are set to begin training as they camp in the United Arab Emirates.
Enyeama, reacting to a post about the AFCON preparations of the team on the official Instagram account of the Super Eagles, posted a comment saying; “Let’s go, See you in camp. Time for business.”
The comment from the former Lille goalkeeper appears to suggest there’s been some sort of reunion between him and the team. It also remains to be seen if Enyeama will be a goalkeeping coach in Jose Peseiro’s crew.
