Manchester United have announced Ruben Amorim as their next coach.
The Sporting CP boss will become the second Portuguese coach to lead the English giants since the legendary Jose Mourinho.
The Fenerbahce boss has reportedly commented on his compatriot taking charge at Old Trafford.
Amorim has coached Sporting since March 2020 and won two Portuguese league titles.
The 39-year-old is still earning his stripes and will be expected to make an instant impact at the club, which has struggled in the last two seasons.
What Mourinho said about Amorim
According to Manchester Evening News, Mourinho said the Red Devils are appointing the "best manager" in Amorim.
The two have rubbed shoulders before. In 2018, when Mourinho was the coach at Old Trafford, Amorim visited the club's Carrington training complex for an internship.
Moreover, Mourinho said the young coach trusts his approach and is less open to changing his style, describing it as "always intense."
The Fenerbahce coach had some positive things to say about his former club before they met in the Europa League last week.
"I wish the best to Man United since the moment I left," Mourinho said.
"I left with a good feeling to the club, with a good feeling to the fans and I want the best for them."
Amorim's Sporting have started the 2024/25 Primeira Liga with nine wins from nine, scoring 30 goals. The 39-year-old coach will likely employ a 3-4-3 and 3-4-2-1 style at Old Trafford, per Sky Sports.
