Nigerians on social media have taken a swipe at their Ghanaian counterparts after a 24-year-old Nigerian broke the world record by continuously playing a soccer video game for more than three days.
The jabs taken at Ghanaians follow the feat achieved by Oside Oluwole, affectionately called "Khoded," who performed the longest video game marathon playing soccer for 75 hours.
He beat the 50-hour record set by Englishman David Whitefoot in 2022.
Recall that Chef Smith, a Ghanaian cook, shocked many when he claimed he had broken the cook-a-thon record, announcing himself as the new record holder.
His claims were, however, denied by the Guinness World Records in a reply to an email sent by Joy FM's Kwame Dadzie, indicating that Chef Smith's assertion is false.
He later apologized for the controversies surrounding his so-called Guinness World Records attempt in an interview with GHOne Television.
Oside played over 500 matches during his record attempt.
According to our rules for all 'longest marathon' records, he accumulated five minutes of rest time after each hour of gaming – only during these breaks could he eat, nap, or use the toilet.
“I really enjoyed myself playing for 75 hours straight with just a few hours of rest,” he said.
“It wasn’t an easy task, but I must say it was all fun.
“It was such a great moment; the event was very interesting and I’m grateful to God that it was successful.”
Oside is a qualified biochemist who currently works as a car dealer. He said he attempted this record to raise money for a local hospital in his hometown of Ijebu Ode.
