Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has described his first goal in the UEFA Champions League as a dream come true.

The 23-year-old scored the only goal as Bayer Leverkusen beat seven-time winners AC Milan 1-0 at the Bay Arena on Tuesday, October 1.

The former Union SG forward tapped home from close range in the 51st minute after Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan failed to handle Jeremie Frimpong’s effort.

Boniface thought he had given the Bundesliga side the lead in the first half, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR check.

Speaking in an interview with Nigerian journalist Oma Akatugba, he expressed his excitement after scoring in Europe’s elite club competition.

“Yeah, I feel good. This is what most young players from Africa want, to be able to represent yourself for your club at the highest level, so I’m really proud of myself and I am really happy we got the win,” the Super Eagles striker told Oma Sports.

“I will try and help my team in any way, it doesn’t matter if it is the Champions League or the cup. I will just try my best and score as many goals as I can.”

Boniface registered five goals in the UEFA Europa League for Xabi Alonso’s side last season. Leverkusen finished as runners-up after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League final.
