Osimhen backed to surpass Yekini's Super Eagles all-time goals record

Former Nigerian international Mutiu Adepoju has urged Victor Osimhen to surpass Rashidi Yekini's all-time record for the Super Eagles.

The legendary striker netted 37 goals in 62 appearances for the Eagles, etching his name in the history books as the greatest striker in Nigerian football history.

Osimhen recently equaled Segun Odegbami's record of 23 goals after scoring in Nigeria's 1-1 draw against Benin Republic last Thursday, November 14.

At 25, the reigning African Footballer of the Year will need 15 more international goals to become Nigeria's all-time top scorer.

Adepoju believes the Galatasaray striker is capable of shattering the record that has stood for three decades.

“Osimhen has all it takes to break Yekini’s record,” Adepoju told SuperSport.

“He’s a very committed player, gives everything for the national team, and so it’s very possible for him to break Yekini’s record.”
