NFF shortlists 3 foreign coaches as candidates to succeed Finidi George

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has begun plans to replace Finidi George following his resignation as head coach of the Super Eagles.

The 53-year-old resigned from his role last weekend after just two matches in charge of the team.

Reports indicate that the former Enyimba coach stepped down from his role after the NFF announced plans to hire a foreign technical adviser for the team without his knowledge.

Finidi George endured a difficult start to his campaign as head coach of the three-time African champions after he failed to secure a win against South Africa and Benin Republic in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw against Bafana Bafana of South Africa before losing 2-1 to Gernot Rohr's Benin Republic side in Abidjan.

OwnGoalNigeria reports that the NFF has lined up three-man shortlists as candidates to occupy the vacant role at the NFF.

Let's look at the three candidates:

Marc Brys

The leading candidate for the role is current Cameroon head coach Marc Brys whose relationship with Samuel Eto'o has strained.

The Belgian coach was fired by FECAFOOT and reinstated few days to the World Cup qualifiers against Angola and Cape Verde.

Antonio Conceição

The next candidate under consideration by the federation is former Cameroon coach Antonio Conceição. The Portuguese tactician was in the race for the Super Eagles job after Jose Peseiro resigned in February.

He was in charge of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon during the 2021 AFCON where the country hosted the rest of the continent.

Didier Six

The last on the NFF's radar is Didier Six. The former French player have coached African teams like Togo and Mauritius. His last job was with Guinea which ended in 2021.

The NFF will reportedly screen these three candidates and settle on one to fill the void left by Finidi George.
