Former Chelsea captain John Terry has claimed that John Mikel Obi did not receive the recognition he deserved for his exceptional contributions to the Blues.

The 44-year-old center-back enjoyed a remarkable career at Stamford Bridge alongside Mikel Obi and other midfield legends, including Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack, Claude Makélélé, Michael Essien, and Juan Mata.

Terry believes the former Super Eagles midfielder is still fit to play for any Premier League side even at age 37.

“He was brilliant,” Terry said during an interview with talkSPORT on Wednesday.

“Having him playing in front of me was amazing. He covered so much ground.

“I still play in ex-Legends games now, and he’s still got it. He could still play in the Premier League today. He had everything, didn’t he?”

The former England international also highlighted that Mikel Obi was one of the holding midfielders who never received enough credit for their performances.

“Players like Makélélé get recognized, but there are certain individuals in that role who don’t get the appreciation they deserve. Obi was one of them.”

According to The PUNCH, Terry and Mikel Obi shared the pitch at Stamford Bridge from 2006 to 2017, playing 266 games together.

The duo celebrated several major trophies, including Premier League titles in 2010 and 2015, as well as the UEFA Champions League triumph in 2012.
