Former Super Eagles head coach José Peseiro is set to return to coaching after leaving his role with Nigeria in February.
Despite an impressive campaign at the 2023 African Cup of Nations, where Nigeria finished as runners-up, Peseiro departed after failing to agree on a new deal with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The 64-year-old Portuguese coach led the Super Eagles to the finals, where they lost 2-1 to hosts Cote d'Ivoire, courtesy of a late goal by Sebastian Haller.
This tournament marked one of Nigeria's best performances at AFCON since their last title win in 2013.
Following Peseiro's departure, Finidi George was appointed as his replacement but resigned after just 47 days.
Peseiro was linked to various clubs after leaving Nigeria, including Kaizer Chiefs, Cameroon's Indomitable Lions, and Zamalek.
According to recent reports, he has attracted interest from the Saudi Professional League, with Al Riyadh negotiating with him as one of two candidates to succeed Brazilian coach Odair Hellmann.
The other candidate is Spanish coach Javier Pereira.
Peseiro's previous experience in Saudi Arabia with the national team and Al Hilal gives him an edge over Pereira. During his tenure with the Super Eagles, Peseiro won 11 out of 22 games, according to Sofascore data.
