Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero shares the same sentiment as Ademola Lookman after the Nigerian international expressed his disappointment with Gian Piero Gasperini's harsh criticism.

Gasperini slammed Lookman for squandering a penalty in Atalanta's 3-1 home loss to Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 knockout stage on Tuesday, February 18.

Despite Lookman's heroics after pulling a goal back right after his introduction at the start of the second half, La Dea crashed out of the competition after losing 5-2 on aggregate to the impressive Belgian side.

Lookman, in a statement, described the manager's backlash as "hurtful" and "disrespectful."

Del Piero believes he could have responded in the same manner if he were in the shoes of the reigning African Footballer of the Year.

“It is human to make mistakes, including from the penalty spot,” said Del Piero on Sky Italia.

“Aside from the internal dynamics of that team, I would have been very upset by Gasperini’s words in the press conference. I am therefore not entirely surprised that Lookman responded that way, as he is right to do so.

“He is having an extraordinary campaign and has been put on the chopping block, which risks damaging the rest of the season. We’ll see how the team reacts.”
