Nigerian international Nathan Tella has expressed his desire to return to the Super Eagles team.
The English-born Nigerian committed his international career to Nigeria in 2023, making his debut against Rwanda in the World Cup qualifiers.
The 25-year-old was later called up for the next fixtures against South Africa and the Benin Republic but requested to be excused.
The Arsenal academy product has not featured for Nigeria since then, largely due to his lack of playing minutes under Xabi Alonso.
Speaking in an interview with OmaSports TV after Bayer Leverkusen's UEFA Champions League clash against Sparta Prague, Tella expressed his readiness to return to the Super Eagles if called up by Eric Chelle.
“Whether I feel I deserve a call is not for me to say,” Tella said after scoring his first UCL goal against the Czech Republic side.
“I’ve never been a player that says I should be called up. I have to work hard and earn my chances. If the new coach thinks I’ve done enough, I will happily accept the call-up, but if not, then I will have to work even harder."
The one-capped Super Eagles star added that it is a pleasure to play for Nigeria.
“It’s an honour to play for your country, and every opportunity I get to represent, I will give 100 percent and hopefully get the recognition back home.”
