Reactions have trailed the death of Issa Hayatou, former President of the Confederation of African Football.
Hayatou reportedly died on Thursday, August 8, 2024, in Paris, France at the age of 77, according to Cameroon Concord who cited CAF sources.
The Cameroonian served as CAF President from 1998 to 2017 when he was replaced by Ahmad Ahmad from Madagascar.
At the FIFA level, he held various roles, including interim president, vice president, and a member of the Executive Council of FIFA.
"We have lost a remarkable leader, a man who devoted his life to the advancement of football in Africa," a CAF spokesperson remarked, as quoted by Cameroon Concord.
"His legacy will continue to inspire us as we strive to further develop the sport on the continent."
