A recent interview by Super Eagles head coach Finidi George is making rounds on social media following Nigeria's disappointing draw against South Africa in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

During his media tour following his official unveiling by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the 53-year-old in an interview with Brila FM emphasized that football formation is irrelevant, stressing that what matters is for his players to know when to attack and defend.

"My philosophy is to win. For me, formation is not that important because if players interpret when to attack and defend and do it well, there will be no problems," the former Real Betis forward said.

"You can play 3-5-2, 4-4-2, but if the players know they have to attack and defend, I think the team will not have any problems. That's what Man City, Arsenal, and every team does."

The Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by Bafana Bafana at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. It was Nigeria's third consecutive draw in the qualifying series.

The 2023 AFCON finalists currently sit in fifth position in Group C with three points from three games.
