FIFA Rankings: Super Eagles drop eight spots after poor performances

Super Eagles Super Eagles

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped eight places in the latest FIFA World rankings for national teams following their recent poor performances.

The 2023 AFCON finalists dropped from 30th to 38th in the new rankings released by FIFA on Thursday, June 20.

The drop can be attributed to Nigeria's disappointing results in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.

The Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw against Bafana Bafana at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo before losing 2-1 to the Squirrels of Benin in Abidjan.

The three-time African champions are however ranked among the best five teams on the continent.

Morocco maintained their place as the best African team followed by Senegal and Egypt respectively.

African champions Ivory Coast and Nigeria completed the top five teams in Africa.
