Eguavoen names Keshi, West, Okechukwu as top Nigerian centre backs

Former Super Eagles coach and player Augustine Eguavoen has named Stephen Keshi, Taribo West, and Uche Okechukwu as the top centre backs Nigeria has ever seen.

The 58-year-old former Super Eagles interim coach believes it is quite difficult to choose a centre-back pair among the three legends, considering them as great defenders.

Eguavoen made this disclosure during a quick question-and-answer session with FIFA's Talent Development Scheme Manager, Abdul Chibsah.

When asked to name his best centre-back partnership, the former Gent star said:

"Yeah, that's a bit difficult, honestly. Late Keshi was good, Okechukwu, Taribo, yeah difficult."

Eguavoen also named the FIFA World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Guinea in 1998 as his best Super Eagles game.

The former Kortrijk player won 49 caps for Nigeria from 1987 to 1998, registering one goal.

He was a member of the Super Eagles squad that qualified for the country's first-ever World Cup in 1994 and won the African Nations Cup in the same year.
