Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu is racing against time to be fit ahead of Southampton's Premier League clash against Chelsea.

The Saints will welcome Enzo Maresca's side to St. Mary's on Wednesday, December 4, in a matchday 14 fixture.

Onuachu picked up an injury during Southampton's 3-2 home defeat to Liverpool two weeks ago. The lanky striker also missed the Saints' 1-1 draw against Brighton in the Premier League last weekend.

In a pre-match press conference, Southampton boss Russell Martin expressed optimism about the chances of the Super Eagles striker recovering in time to feature against the Blues.

“We’re hopeful that Paul will be involved on Wednesday, which will be good for us,” Martin was quoted as saying by Yahoo Sports.
