Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has acknowledged that his side came up against a difficult opponent in West Ham United on Monday night.

The Blues recorded a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Hammers at Stamford Bridge after having to come from behind to turn the game on its head.

Jarred Bowen gave West Ham the lead in the first half before Pedro Neto came off the bench to equalized in the 64th minute.

Cole Palmer's shot which deflected off Aaron Wan-Bissaka completed the turn around for Enzo Maresca side who moved back into the top four.

Sharing his thoughts on the game, Maresca stated that the game was tough mentally and also West Ham defended very deep and waited for his side to make a mistake to capitalize on.

“It is huge,” Maresca said. “It was a tough game especially mentally.

“It is never easy when teams come here and wait and sit back. You need to be patient. There is no space, you need to move the ball and wait for the right moment.

“In the second half we came back and overall we deserved to win the game. They were waiting for our mistakes and you can’t get frustrated.”
