EPL: Awoniyi hit a brace as Forest beat Southampton in a seven-goal thriller

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored twice as Nottingham Forest beat Southampton 4-3 in the Premier League at the City Ground Stadium on Monday night.

The Nigerian international scored the opening two goals of the game to ensure that Steve Cooper's side started the game on the front foot.

The ex-Union Berlin man opened the scoring in the 18th minute before adding the second three minutes later in the 21st minute.

Jonas Alcaraz pulled a goal back for the Saints in the 25th minute before Morgan Gibbs-White restored Forest's two-goal lead before the break.

Lyanco came off the bench to peck the home side back in the 51st minute before Danilo restored the Reds' two-goal lead for the second time in the game.

James Ward-Prowse reduced the deficit back to one again with a late spot-kick in the dying embers of the game.
