Former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju has urged his compatriot Samuel Chukwueze to stay and fight for his place at AC Milan, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Pacy Nigerian winger has been linked with a move away from the club following his lack of playing time at the San Siro Stadium.
Chukwueze joined Milan from La Liga side Villarreal in 2023 with high expectations, but the Nigerian international has struggled for consistency at the club.
The 25-year-old has made just a handful of starts across all competitions, which has led to speculations about a possible summer exit.
However, Adepoju, who previously starred for Real Sociedad during his playing career, believes it would be unwise for Chukwueze to jump ship so soon.
“Samuel Chukwueze’s time in Milan has not been very consistent. He needs to work harder because if you leave Milan and go somewhere else and still have the same level of performance, that would be a huge mistake,” Adepoju said to RG.
Adepoju noted that Chukwueze still has time to prove himself in Italy and fulfil his potential, just like he did in Spain.
“He needs to work more so that he can get into the team and play consistently, and from there, his career will go up.”
Meanwhile, reports by Milan News suggest that the Rossoneri have put up the Nigerian attacker for sale ahead of the upcoming summer window.
Regardless, Chukwueze will be hoping to finish the season strongly and make a case for more minutes in Milan’s star-studded squad, which can pique the interest of Sérgio Conceição or potential suitors.
