Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed a record-breaking spotlight after Kylian Mbappe’s transfer to Real Madrid was made official, and he shared his thoughts on social media.

The transfer saga between Mbappe, Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain was drawn to a close after officially starting in the summer transfer window of 2021.

Los Blancos tested the waters by offering PSG €160 million on the transfer deadline day, but it was turned down with claims that they were unwilling to sell.

Finally, the French national team captain left the club on a free transfer after running down his contract, allowing him to seal his dream move to the Spanish capital.

Ronaldo makes Instagram record after Mbappe's move

Mbappe was elated after completing his move to Madrid and took to his Instagram page to share four photos of his young self in the club's white colours.

One of those pictures was with Ronaldo when Zinedine Zidane invited the 14-year-old Kylian to Madrid’s complex at Valdebebas in 2012. This prompted a comment from the Al-Nassr star.

“My turn to watch, excited to see you light up the Bernabeu,” he wrote.

As spotted by Centre Goals, the comment has amassed over 3.8 million likes, setting a new record for the most-liked Instagram comment, a record previously held by a comment on Reed Harrington’s post.

The feat comes as no surprise as the former Manchester United forward is the most followed account on the platform with 631 million fans, about 60 times more than the population of all countries except China and India.
