Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has named four clubs as favorites to win the UEFA Champions League this season after his side was eliminated from the competition.

The Premier League title holders were thrashed 3-1 by Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu and crashed out of the competition with an aggregate scoreline of 6-3.

Frenchman Kylian Mbappe netted all three goals for Los Blancos, who booked their place in the last 16.

Speaking in a post-match press conference, Guardiola named the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain as the favorites to clinch the ultimate prize.

The Spanish manager, however, emphasized that Carlo Ancelotti's side will always remain favorites for the Champions League.

“Of course, Madrid are a contender, definitely,” Guardiola said.

“But there are other good teams around. It will be an interesting Champions League season.

“Madrid are always favorites for this trophy. There are other teams who are having a very good season, but Madrid are always favorites.

“But there are other teams that are playing very well. Liverpool are having a really good season up until now, Barcelona are amazing, and Paris Saint-Germain, with my friend Luis [Enrique] in charge, are on the march.

“But obviously, Madrid are favorites.”
