Benin vs Nigeria: Rohr sends message to Nigerians ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers

Benin head coach Gernot Rohr has sent a message to Nigerians ahead of the crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles.

The Squirrels will face the Super Eagles at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan in Nigeria's fourth game of the qualifying series.

Still without a win in the qualifiers, Finidi George's side will hope to bounce back from their sluggish start to the campaign as they take on Benin Republic later today, Monday, June 10.

Rohr's side enters the match following their 1-0 victory against Rwanda in their last game.

Speaking ahead of the clash, the 70-year-old expressed confidence in his team’s potential, despite their underdog status.

"Nigeria is a great team. We are the underdogs, but we will play tomorrow to win," Rohr told reporters.

Rohr, a former Bayern Munich defender, is Nigeria's longest-serving coach, having led the team from 2016 to 2021.

During his tenure, he qualified the Super Eagles for the 2019 and 2021 AFCON tournaments and also managed the team at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
