Renowned French manager Rudi Garcia will take charge of the Belgian national team following the dismissal of Domenico Tedesco.
The announcement was made on Friday by the Royal Belgian Football Association.
Thierry Henry had been considered the favorite for the Belgium head coach position.
However, the association is expected to introduce Garcia as the head coach of Belgium at a press conference scheduled for 1:00 PM Central European Time.
Garcia will debut in his new role during the playoff matches for promotion to League A of the Nations League against Ukraine.
The Frenchman is expected to help Belgium in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, where they will face Kazakhstan, Wales, North Macedonia, and Liechtenstein.
Garcia’s most recent managerial role was at Napoli. Before that, he coached Al-Nassr, Lille, Roma, Marseille, and Lyon.
The way for the 60-year-old was paved after Tedesco who was under contract until the summer of 2026 was sacked last week due to poor results.
"A beautiful story has unfortunately come to an end," Tedesco said in a statement.
"This team is only at the beginning of its development and will be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come. I wish the players, the great staff at the club and the fans all the best from the bottom of my heart," he said.
