After punishing us, he will hug everyone in the dressing room - Osimhen reveals Spalletti managerial style during Napoli stint

Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen has credited former Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti as the driving force behind their historic Serie A title-winning campaign in the 2023/2024 season.

Napoli ended their 33-year wait for the Italian league title in 2023, transforming into a dominant force under Spalletti’s leadership. The victory cemented the players' names in the club’s history books.

Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, Osimhen, who left Napoli for Galatasaray on loan, described Spalletti as a strict yet brilliant tactician, emphasizing that the team was simply executing his vision.

"I thought, we have a chance. we have a chance. Then Spalletti was sleeping at the training ground.

"He was sleeping at the training ground. The players were there, and he was already there. Wow. Strategizing and everything. I think he's the architect of the reason why we actually won the Scudetto," Osimhen revealed.

"We were the performers, but that man—he was, he was like the main, the main reason. He doesn't like to do things on camera; he loves working behind the scenes. And, you know, he's a strict man. A really strict man. So most of the time, the players weren't slacking or acting up in training," Osimhen added.

"When the players weren't putting in their best effort, he'd say, Guys, you're not fighting. Okay, no problem. Do it one more time, and I'll cancel the training, and you guys will start to run. Wow. We thought maybe it was just one of those coach things. We were doing some drills in training, and then he said, Stop He asked the guys to remove the goalposts. Yeah. And we started running. Wow. We were running, we were running, you know, and everyone was angry and frustrated"

"Then, after the training was over, he came to the dressing room.

"He came in, hugged everyone, and started to talk to us. He told us he wasn't doing it because he hated us. He was doing it because he believed we could achieve something important."
