The West African tax and finance community celebrates the accomplishments of Ms. Oluwashola Bello, a seasoned tax expert and Deputy Manager at Nigeria’s Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), who has been recognized as Tax Manager of the Year 2024 by the Institute of Debt Recovery Practitioners of Nigeria (IDRPN).
The prestigious award was presented at the institute’s annual national conference held in Lagos in November 2024.
Ms. Bello’s professional journey is one marked by excellence, resilience, and service. Starting her career in Nigeria’s dynamic banking sector, she quickly established herself as a results-driven professional.
Her transition into public service through FIRS further showcased her capacity to thrive in complex financial environments. Initially appointed as Assistant Tax Manager, she rose through the ranks to her current position as Deputy Manager, a role in which she leads critical initiatives in tax compliance, revenue mobilization, and policy execution.
Ms. Bello holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a background that has empowered her to integrate technology-driven solutions into tax administration. Over the years, she has distinguished herself through innovation, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to public service.
In recognition of her remarkable contributions to the fields of taxation and business administration, she has been awarded fellowship by several respected institutions.
These include the Institute of Management Consultants (IMC), the National Institute of Credit Administration (NICA), the Commonwealth Academy of Leadership and Management (CALM) in the United Kingdom, and the Institute of Debt Recovery Practitioners of Nigeria (IDRPN).
Following her recent award, Ms. Bello shared her gratitude in a virtual interview: “I am deeply grateful to God for His grace, and to my family and incredible team at FIRS who have supported me throughout this journey. This recognition is a collective victory.”
She also had a message for aspiring professionals across Africa stating, “Young people must stay focused, continue to learn, and never underestimate the value of hard work. Build yourself consistently, and success will follow.”
