You won't be able to tweet if military returns to power - Pastor Poju Oyemade tells Nigerians

Pastor Poju Oyemade of Covenant Christian Centre has said that if the military were to return to power in Nigeria, citizens won't be able to share certain tweets on X.

According to him, making such a tweet could land one in jail because the military operates based on decrees.

The clergyman stated that such is possible because the military abolishes the constitution, which would have prevented such detention.

Oyemade told a congregation, "You will not make one tweet when military comes to power. Do you know what military government is? People don't understand. They abolish the constitution. The Supreme Military Council writes decrees. Every judgment is according to what they decree. When you get to the Supreme Court, it is not the Constitution you deal with but the decree they wrote.

"If they tell you that tweeting this is against the law, you are going to jail."

Oyemade also shared a story his landlord told me about what he endured during the military era in Nigeria.

"When the military packed everybody then and threw them into jail, this landlord of mine said, 'Do you know the irony of life? My jailmate and I used to fight. 12 years after being released, my son came with his wife. I requested to meet her parents before the wedding. It was my jail colleague. Life is deeper than just your feelings," he said.
