Ademola Lookman could be set for a sensational return to the Premier League, with Atalanta reportedly preparing to sell the Nigeria international to Liverpool this summer.

Lookman was instrumental in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League victory and placed 14th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings and he is one of the Italian club’s most valuable assets. His stellar form has caught the attention of several top clubs, with Liverpool now reportedly leading the chase for his signature.

The 26-year-old winger is no stranger to English football, having played for Everton, Fulham and Leicester City in the Premier League before reviving his career in Serie A. His resurgence in Bergamo has not gone unnoticed, and Atalanta are said to be positioning for a profitable transfer window.

According to Italian outlet Il Giorno, Atalanta’s new Director of Global Development, John Murtough, formerly of Manchester United, has been tasked with maximising revenue from the sale of key players, including Lookman and Brazilian midfielder Ederson.

While Manchester City and Manchester United are circling Ederson, Lookman is viewed as a high-impact attacking reinforcement by Liverpool, especially with the uncertainty surrounding their frontline under the incoming new manager.

Atalanta have previously benefited from lucrative sales to English clubs, having sold Amad Diallo and Rasmus Højlund to United, Cristian Romero to Tottenham Hotspur, and Timothy Castagne and Caleb Okoli to Leicester City.

Should the deal go through, Lookman would join a short list of Nigerian exports to have featured for Liverpool, such as Victor Moses, and could bring added flair and goal threat to Anfield.
