Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has instructed that the Independence Bridge in Lagos be reopened immediately for vehicular movement.
This decision comes after the bridge had been closed earlier for scheduled maintenance and rehabilitation.
Temporary measures are now being implemented to make the bridge passable for commuters.
The Ministry has issued an apology to motorists for the difficulties caused by the closure and has called for their patience and understanding.
It also assured that full-scale repair work on the bridge will be carried out at a later time.
Residents of Lagos have shared their frustrations over the immense stress they experienced navigating the gridlock on Victoria Island while returning from work.
The situation has sparked discussions on social media, where users have posted videos and images capturing the extended traffic jam.
