Jacob Anebe, a former Senior Adviser on Secondary Education to ex-Kogi State Governor Ibrahim Idris, has claimed that the ongoing recall attempt against Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is being orchestrated by a faction within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in an interview on Arise News on Wednesday, March 26, Anebe alleged that only a small group within the ruling party was behind the recall effort, while many APC members opposed it.

“The purported recall is not by the constituents; it is being carried out by the APC.”

“It is being done by a few people in the APC. There are members within the party who do not support this recall exercise because, to them, the senator has done nothing wrong. She has performed excellently since assuming office. You will recall that due to the irregularities during the election, she resumed much later than other senators.”

The recall attempt faced a significant setback as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ruled that the petition submitted did not meet the necessary requirements.

In a statement issued by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC revealed that the petitioners failed to provide essential contact details.

“The representatives of the petitioners did not include their contact addresses, telephone numbers, or email addresses in the covering letter forwarding the petition, which is required under Clause 1(f) of our regulations and guidelines.”

Despite this, INEC reassured the public that it remains committed to following the legal framework for any recall process.
