The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Communications, Sunday Dare, has said former President Obasanjo was the man who introduced bribery into the Fourth Republic.
Dare said this after Obasanjo "recklessly accused the distinguished and honourable members of the National Assembly of bribe-taking to pass the Rivers state of emergency declaration."
He added, "We should not forget this. However, we should be alarmed by his brazen hypocrisy."
Obasanjo was quoted to have said the lawmakers were bribed $200k each to support the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu in Rivers.
He said,“You can say anything. I heard it from the horse’s mouth. You can deny it, that is alright, but I heard it from those who got it and told me that they got it. If you didn’t get it, then maybe your case is different. Don’t tell me what I know. Most of your members who got it told me that they got it.”
Meanwhile, the lawmakers have dismissed claims of being bribed to support Tinubu's action in Rivers.
According to them, what they got was Ramadan bonuses.
