A human rights lawyer, Ebun Adegboruwa (SAN), has wondered if President Bola Tinubu can suspend himself if he should declare a state of emergency in the whole federation.

Adegboruwa made the observation after Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months.

Tinubu also declared a state of emergency to douse the crisis rocking the state, which has led to the bombing of oil pipelines.

Reacting, Adegboruwa said the state of emergency in Rivers reeks of "Illogicality and Illegality."

He added, "If the President had declared a state of emergency in the whole Federation under section 305, would he have suspended himself from office and also the National Assembly?"
