Prophet Umueke Miracle of Dynamic Flame of Fire and Miracle Ministries has backed out of a challenge for him to heal stroke patients, which was put forward by former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.
The Port Harcourt-based pastor had made himself available for the challenge after Sowore rubbished Nigerian pastors who claim to have miraculous powers.
Reacting, Umueke challenged Sowore, saying he's ready to heal any stroke patient he brings to his church.
He said, “People don’t believe in miracles. I overheard Sowore saying no pastor can perform any miracle. I challenged him to bring someone who has had a stroke. But before he brings the person, let them take the person to the hospital to confirm that the person has had a stroke."
Accepting the challenge, Sowore urged Umueke to go to the stroke ward at a general hospital in Port Harcourt and heal all the patients there.
Instead of going forward with the challenge, Umueke made a U-turn and apologized to Sowore, saying he's no longer interested in the challenge.
He told his congregation, "I'm not offended anybody, but if you feel I've offended you, please forgive me. Don't destroy the work of God in my hand. I apologize to those who feel like disrespected.
"As a matter of fact, I'm a member of your party from now on, leave my church alone. Any contest. I have canceled the contest. No more contest, because the day may break you will hear another voice under my picture. Am I right? I want to be focused and do the work of God.
"I have so much respect for my elder brother. I wasn't challenging you. In age, in politics, in everything, you are more than me. I cannot challenge you. Please. Let there be peace."
Umueke also dismissed reports that he suffered stroke and was in coma.
